Bristol to NEB for engine August 19 - Nov 8

Bristol to NEB for engine replacement August 18 - Nov 8

8/18/2013:  Élan was towed to NEB by tow boat US.

They put us right on a facing dock at the NEB entrance.  Well done.

Jamie came to dock and removed the "new" injectors he had installed for testing by DePaul Diesel.

8/19/2013 DePaul Diesel found one bad injector. Injector did not fire during their test. Jamie did a compression test and found cylinder compression below Yanmar specifications, time to call insurance co.

8/20/2013! Phone call to Seaworthy Ins agent, Marie Hayward to file claim for
catastrophic engine failure. We were assigned a surveyor who met with James and checked out the engine.  The decision was made to pull the engine and ship it to Mack-Boring for teardown and evaluation.

Jamie and Spencer prepped the boat for the old engine removal, the boat now looks like a construction zone:

Oct 4, 2013  We are still on the hard waiting for the new engine to arrive and the full canvas to be installed and the davits to be straightened.
I am trying to get all the paperwork together to send to insurance co. as a total package. Not everyone is cooperating.

We have spent the time working on various projects, fixing the freezer tops, and top for stove.  Installing all new sanitation hose, installing insulation for engine and genset.

Buffing Bob took on the “oyster type” davits and heavy duty radar pole.  Brilliant!

I did some kayaking and got a few shots from the water line.

Bob did a major clean up of engine compartment and bilge to prepare it for the new engine. However, we did smell like public bathrooms for a while, make your eyes water!!

We went to the Newport Boat show and looked at some interesting trawlers, for future cruising when we get too old to sail. Kadey-Krogen was the best.

Cindy came to visit and spent a night in the construction zone with us.

I went to CA to see family and came back with a bad cold which I gave to Bob.

We picked up old engine in New Bedford and brought it to NEB for parts.

Phil from Kinder started the canvas installation.

AND, the new engine arrives

Jamie and Spencer start the process of getting the engine ready for take off. It's been a long process and we can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.  I hope!
